Leigh Park Hermitage – Amy Redsull
Amy Redsull, standing in Leigh Park Hermitage Ward
I am proud to say I am Labour’s youngest female candidate this year.
I am standing for Leigh Park Hermitage because I am fed up with representatives on the local council and at governmental levels who just do not care about our residents. So many manifesto promises were broken and so many simply neglected. I also want to be an open representative and a supportive member of the community. I want the residents of the area to feel they can approach me on any issues, and I will make sure to respond as soon as I can.
My five aims as a councillor for Leigh Park Hermitage are
- Better extra-curricular activities for children and young adults. There is a real deficit of youth provisions so I would like to work with the council to lobby them into funding more youth groups. Furthermore, I would like to lobby for more non-sport activities and more fun and less competitive sports activities. I think that it is vital to support our young people in the best ways possible.
- I would also like to press the council to spend more on outreach programmes for the elderly community. I know from my grandparents how lonely lockdown has been for many elderly people so I would love to set up a befriending scheme and some more and better outreach programmes to help elderly people and their mental health. I am currently working on a virtual coffee morning initiative with a member of the community which we are hoping to use to help reduce loneliness.
- I would like to lobby the council for better provisions of social housing within West Leigh. The current waiting list to get a council property is around a decade. This is ridiculous, so I would like to work with the council to try and allocate more funding to provide more and better social housing within our community. Furthermore, I want the council to ensure that with every addition of social housing, there are adequate amenities available for residents.
- I wish to work with Mind and ITalk Hampshire to create easy access to mental health support. I know first hand how debilitating and daunting that asking for help can be if you struggle with mental health issues. I want to work to support the community.
- Job opportunities in the local area. There is a real deficit of job opportunities so I would love to lobby the council to increase provisions. I would also like to encourage local businesses to take chances on youth in the area. Personally, if elected I would give young people in the community an opportunity to work with me as an intern. I believe with the right support people can achieve anything they desire, I am proof of that statement.
