Havant Labour Party The Labour Party in Havant - standing up for you and our area
Stef Harvey – Parliamentary Candidate
Hello, my name is Stef Harvey, I am a teacher at our local college and a proud champion of children with special educational needs. Every decision I will make as an MP affects my family and children and I will always put community first. I decided to stand as a candidate after years of inaction on our water, and hearing of children being unable to swim for fear of being ill. I will hold Southern Water to account over this. I have also already begun to meet with DEFRA to ensure adequate sea defences. I believe in the power of politics to change lives, and that is what I intend to do.
Speaking to residents, I know how much the cost of living is impacting everyone here. Rent, mortgages, energy bills and food bills keep rising – far faster than incomes. If elected one of my first priorities will be ensuring that Great British Energy helps our community with cheaper bills and stable jobs you can raise a family on.
My pledge to you and our community:
🌹 Bring Politics back to the community – a centrally based office and weekly surgeries – I’ll deal with complaints and issues face to face, no hiding away
🌹Hold Southern Water to account – no more sewage in our seas.
🌹Work with DEFRA to get adequate sea defences
🌹 Safe, stable and affordable housing for all
🌹 Ensure that Labour’s recruitment drive for NHS staff reaches people in Havant – better access to healthcare
🌹 Stand up for schools and SEND students
🌹 lobby for the return of Sure Start centres, increasing equality in Havant
Personal Statement
Havant is crying out for investment and people need help with the cost of living crisis – they need a strong, local MP who works for them, advocates for them and serves them, and I am the candidate for that job. My first task will be to open a space in the community so that you can speak directly to me. I have lived and worked within the Havant and Waterlooville area my entire life, and I am well aware of the challenges that face our community. If elected, I will be an active presence in the community.
I currently work as a teacher in the constituency and I am well aware of the challenges facing our children in schools, particularly those with special educational needs, and I would like to work to fix this. Our schools need better funding to ensure our children have a bright future, and all students, regardless of background, have access to all available opportunities. Only a Labour government can secure this, with fully funded plans to deliver high standards in early years, mental health support, 6,500 more teachers and a focus on IT and oracy skills to help students secure meaningful jobs.
I want our town centres, from Emsworth to Havant to Hayling Island, to be a place to be proud of. I will work to ensure urgent investment in our communities, which will secure high quality jobs for local people and support for local business, as well as seeing our towns return to thriving social hubs. I will also work to protect people from uninhabitable homes and empower tenants to take action if their homes are sub standard; everyone in Havant deserves a stable and habitable home. It is also important that infrastructure matches the numbers of homes being built, and so I will work to lobby for the correct levels of investment in to our communities.
All residents deserve to feel safe in their homes. It is imperative that crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled and I will make sure that our neighbourhoods are safe again through increased patrols and that each and every community in Havant has a named officer to get in touch with, to ensure a swift response to crime.
The NHS is the cornerstone of our brilliant country, but it has been brought to its knees. With a Labour Government, there will be no more scramble at 8am for a doctors appointment in the morning, a reduction in children being admitted to hospital for tooth decay and urgent reforms to ensure that the 1.2 million people waiting for mental health care are seen and receive the care they deserve. I will work to make sure that the people of Havant will benefit from these policies and receive the health care they deserve, improving access to all elements along the way.
We live in an area of natural beauty, but our rivers and seasides are being polluted, and I will work to protect these areas. I will work to improve air and water quality through making sure it is a priority in parliament. I enjoy countryside walks along the Hayling Billy or along the seafront in Emsworth and understand how important it is to protect these areas for future generations.
I will be a strong, local voice, working for our community and I would love to hear from you, please get in contact.
