Amy Redsull, Labour Councillor for Warren Park Ward

I am honoured to be taking over responsibility for Warren Park from Beryl Francis who served the ward so admirably for so many years, and thank her for all her hard work.

I am a postgraduate researcher focusing on the impact of Universal Credit within Portsmouth and Havant and volunteers for two charities.

As a working class, disabled woman, I have spent my entire educational career raising awareness for issues within Havant, Leigh Park and Portsmouth. I am proud to call myself* a Leigh Parker.

My five aims as a councillor for Warren Park are:

  1. Lobbying for rental property costs to return to being affordable. As a young person I find it infuriating that despite working full time I am unable to afford to buy or even rent a home in Leigh Park. It is important to our function, survival, and identity to ensure there are affordable housing opportunities which are actually affordable for our residents.
  2. More investment in Park Parade shopping centre. I am incredibly proud of our local area, and the recent years of inadequate funding requires change to provide better provisions for all of our residents. I want Park Parade to return to the hub it was in its heyday.
  3. Better employment opportunities. As a young person in Leigh Park I understand how difficult it is to find full time permanent employment in the ward, and this is why I want to work with local businesses to create more opportunities for young people*. In addition, if elected I will open my office to young people for work experience so the future of Warren Park ward can understand how our local politics works, and give them vital life experience to help further their careers.
  4. Improving residential parking. The amount of parking spaces in the ward are simply inadequate, and while I won’t promise that I can increase available parking overnight, I can promise to explore all possible resolutions and strive for their implementation.
  5. More activities for young people. As a worker in the charity sector I have seen our issues with the lack of funding available to support young people in our community first-hand. I will work personally, side by side with our young residents and fellow councillors to propose new venues for young people within Warren Park.
