We are delighted that we have secured a new Banking Hub to be set up in Havant Town Centre. The Hub will enable residents to deposit and draw cash and will also provide advice to customers. This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when politicians work to the same goal and is due to the combined efforts of politicians all working for Havant.
These efforts included:
– A joint letter sent in November to Lloyds Bank from leaders of the Labour, Liberal Democrat’s and Greens with several follow up calls.
– A formal request for a Banking Hub sent by Havant Borough Council officers
– A petition organised by Councillor Grainne Rason (Greens)
– a campaign organised by Councillor Sharon Collins (Reform)
– The support and action of Havant MP Alan Mak (Conservative)
A banking hub is a shared, high-street space in the UK, operated by the Post Office and owned by Cash Access UK, designed to provide essential, in-person banking services to communities that have lost their bank branches. They offer a central counter for daily transactions—such as withdrawing/depositing cash and checking balances—for customers of multiple, major banks. Additionally, customers are able to ask their local community banker for in-person help with more complicated transactions such as mortgages, loans, pensions and more on a dedicated day of the week.
Initially this will be set up in a temporary location whilst a long term site is selected.
