During the general election campaign, Rosamund Knight met with Darren Mckenna, who runs the PO9 foodbank in Leigh Park. She found out more about how he runs the bank, the freebank service where goods like furniture are given to those in need, and the petbank service where donations of pet food and accessories are given free.

Several members also got involved in ‘the big wrap’, a day wrapping Christmas presents to be distributed to those who could not afford to buy them for their families. It was a real eye opener to meet someone so passionate about helping others, and the PO9 team are out almost daily organising donations, making deliveries, and taking the time out to talk to those who they help.

Since that meeting, Havant Labour Party have forged a close relationship with the foodbank, collecting goods from members at every meeting held, and passing them on to Darren.

The PO9 team have now set up as a Community Interest Company, to find out more or donate to them, check out their facebook page;
